Methanol

Methanol serves multiple purposes in the oil & gas industry, including preventing hydrates and acting as a solvent. In gas dehydration, methanol may be injected to inhibit hydrant formation by depressing the dew point.  

Preventing hydrate formation in gas processing systems is critical because gas hydrates can block pipelines, valves, and processing equipment, leading to costly shutdowns and safety hazards. These blockages can occur rapidly under high-pressure, low-temperature conditions typical in gas production and transport.  

By inhibiting hydrate formation, operators ensure continuous flow, protect infrastructure, and maintain operational efficiency. This is especially important in offshore and cold-climate operations where hydrate risks are elevated.
